Jackson County Deputy Fatally Shot During Disturbance Call, Sheriff Confirms
JACKSON COUNTY, MS — A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy was tragically shot and killed Wednesday night while responding to a disturbance call, authorities confirmed.
Deputy Michael Jimerson was dispatched to the Reserve Apartments at 6721 Washington Avenue in the St. Martin area around 11 p.m., according to Sheriff John Ledbetter. During the response, Deputy Jimerson engaged in a brief foot pursuit with a female suspect. The encounter escalated into an exchange of gunfire.
Deputy Jimerson was rushed to Ocean Springs Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The female suspect also died at the scene, the sheriff’s office reported.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is currently leading the investigation into the incident.
