7-Month-Old Girl Shot and Killed in Brooklyn; Police Hunt Second Suspect

BUSHWICK, Brooklyn, NY — A 7-month-old girl was tragically shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in broad daylight on a Bushwick street, as New York City reels from the heartbreaking incident.

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the shooting occurred around 1 p.m. near Moore Street and Humboldt Street when two men on a moped fired multiple shots at a group of people on the sidewalk. The infant, in a stroller with her parents, was struck in the head. The parents rushed her to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m. No other injuries were reported.

Video footage shows the men on the moped, with the rear passenger firing at least two shots. Afterward, the pair drove against traffic and crashed into a car, causing both men to fall. One suspect was taken into custody in connection with a domestic violence-related robbery. Police continue to search for the alleged shooter, believed to be gang-affiliated, while investigating the incident as possibly gang-motivated.

“This is a terrible day in our city. A tragedy that truly shocks the conscience,” Tisch said. “As a mother, I cannot imagine the pain this family is feeling.”

Authorities recovered shell casings at the scene and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
